Hoang Thuy Linh is an actress and singer from Vietnam. However, she is best known for a sex video scandal which put her on par with Paris Hilton in her country. She was born August 11th, 1988 in Ha Noi, Vietnam. Linh was a student at the College of Art in Hanoi where she studied acting for television.
She made her acting debut in a 2004 TV series called "Way of life". The show was a complete success and led to roles in two more TV dramas. She was also the master of ceremonies in a Hanoi television show. From her success in TV, Thuy Linh started a music band called "Thien Than" ("Angels").
Hoang Thuy Linh's real publicity came in 2007 when she was the center of a huge sex scandal. A video tape of the actress/singer having intercourse with her boyfriend was leaked and spread quickly all over the internet. Unlike in the US where it is common for public figures to intentionally leak sex tapes, Vietnam is much more strict with its belief that celebrities should maintain a moral image. The scandal caused a nation-wide outcry and a large debut followed. Many young women and teen girls supported Hoang Thuy Linh, calling for tolerance. Adults and parents in particular criticized Hoang Thuy Linh to the point where her career was put in jeopardy. Hoang Thuy Linh lost her role in as MC in the Hanoi program.
Vietnamese standards of morality basically ended her career on television which is run by the state. However, she was still able to continue her career as a singer. Since then, Hoang Thuy Linh has been very successful in Hanoi and throughout Vietnam.
